Episode 1.03: Lucky Strike

Episode Recap (Warning: Spoilers ahead!):

Harry and Debbie decide to do a family bowling night with Annie and Dixon because they feel they haven’t spent much time together. Annie and Dixon are not thrilled with the prospect of spending a Friday night with their parents, so they secretly invite several of their friends. Annie finds herself being interested in both Ty and Ethan.

We learn that Silver has been sleeping at shelters and in her car to avoid her mother Jackie, who gets so drunk that she is unpredictable and frightening. She tries to stay the night with friends as much as possible. After bowling night, Dixon finds her sleeping in her car and she is forced to tell the Wilsons about her predicament. She then confides in Kelly, who goes to confront Jackie. Jackie is drunk and tells them both to get lost, so Silver goes to stay with Kelly.

Kelly meanwhile goes on a “sort of” date with Ryan Eggold that ends with them making out in the front seat of his car.

Naomi’s plans with her father get canceled at the last minute because of a work emergency, and her father buys her a brand new car to make up for it. (!!!) Naomi decides to surprise him at the office with a meal from Nobu but accidentally finds her father in a passionate clinch with another woman. She is devastated. Naomi’s friend (who is with her in the car) drives them both to the bowling alley where all their friends are and Ethan comes out to console her.

The Wilsons conclude that family night was a success despite the fact that their kids took off with their friends kind of early.

Episode Review:

This was a good episode, in my opinion, and I especially loved the happy ending. I’m finding the show a little clichéd, but some of the story lines are starting to heat up a bit. New shows often take a while to get a solid story line going. I find it kind of weird that Ty looks just like Nate on Gossip Girl and Ryan Eggold looks a heck of a lot like Rufus on Gossip Girl! (Anyone else notice odd similarities?) Anyway, I am looking forward to next week’s episode to see what happens with Kelly and Ryan, and to see if Annie makes a choice between the two guys.
